Polynomial splines over hierarchical T-meshes

چکیده
In this paper, we introduce a new type of splines—polynomial splines over hierarchical T-meshes (called PHT-splines) to model geometric objects. PHT-splines are a generalization of B-splines over hierarchical T-meshes. We present the detailed construction process of spline basis functions over T-meshes which have the same important properties as B-splines do, such as nonnegativity, local support and partition of unity. As two fundamental operations, cross insertion and cross removal of PHT-splines are discussed. With the new splines, surface models can be constructed efficiently and adaptively to fit open or closed mesh models, where only linear systems of equations with a few unknowns are involved. With this approach, a NURBS surface can be efficiently simplified into a PHTspline which dramatically reduces the superfluous control points of the NURBS surface. Furthermore, PHT-splines allow for several important types of geometry processing in a natural and efficient manner, such as conversion of a PHT-spline into an assembly of tensor-product spline patches, and shape simplification of PHT-splines over a coarser T-mesh. PHT-splines not only inherit many good properties of Sederberg’s T-splines such as adaptivity and locality, but also extend T-splines in several aspects except that they are only C continuous. For example, PHT-splines are polynomial instead of rational; cross insertion/ removal of PHT-splines is local and simple. 2008 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

C1 bicubic splines over general T-meshes
The present authors have introduced polynomial splines over T-meshes (PHT-splines) and provided the theories and applications for PHT-splines over hierarchical T-meshes. This paper generalizes PHT-splines to arbitrary topology over general T-meshes with any structures. The general PHT-spline surfaces can be constructed through an unified scheme to interpolate the local geometric information at ...
متن کاملBases of Biquadratic Polynomial Spline Spaces over Hierarchical T-meshes
Basis functions of biquadratic polynomial spline spaces over hierarchical T-meshes are constructed. The basis functions are all tensor-product B-splines, which are linearly independent, nonnegative and complete. To make basis functions more efficient for geometric modeling, we also give out a new basis with the property of unit partition. Two preliminary applications are given to demonstrate th...
متن کاملA new basis for PHT-splines
PHT-splines (polynomials splines over hierarchical T-meshes) are a generalization of B-splines over hierarchical T-mesheswhich possess a very efficient local refinement property. This property makes PHT-splines preferable in geometric processing, adaptive finite elements and isogeometric analysis. In this paper, we first make analysis of the previously constructed basis functions of PHT-splines...
متن کاملAdaptive isogeometric analysis using rational PHT-splines
Polynomial splines over hierarchical T-meshes (PHT-splines) have an efficient and simple local refinement algorithm, but fail to represent exactly certain complex engineering geometries. In this paper, based on the current isogeometric framework, we overcome the drawbacks of PHT-splines by extending these to Rational PHT-splines (RPHT-splines), and explore RPHT-splines as the basis for analysis...

In this paper, we propose to extend the hierarchical bivariateHermite Interpolant to the spherical case. Let $T$ be an arbitraryspherical triangle of the unit sphere $S$ and let $u$ be a functiondefined over the triangle $T$. For $kin mathbb{N}$, we consider aHermite spherical Interpolant problem $H_k$ defined by some datascheme $mathcal{D}_k(u)$ and which admits a unique solution $p_k$in the ...
